mperito Networks, a rising provider of software-based VPN solutions, commissioned me to redesign their year-old website in mid-2001. Project deliverables would include a top-to-bottom reorganization of the site’s content, design of a new look and feel, copy-editing of much of the site’s content, full site production, and development of new interactive elements such as sign-up forms, online calculators, etc.
The new site’s streamlined architecture removes excess layers of hierarchy found in the previous site, providing a simpler, more direct means of navigation. Custom-designed icons atop each page link to product-related content, with secondary corporate content accessible from a menubar at the bottom of the page. Virtually all content in the site is accessible within two clicks of the home page.
Per Imperito’s request, the site’s new look and feel was designed to be clean, uncluttered, and well-organized. The home page communicates a few key messages while drawing users into the site. Interior pages share a common template, providing a consistent layout for content, navigation, and design elements, with ample room for customization when desired. The site’s color palette, selected to compliment the Imperito logo, makes bold use of vibrant, primary colors to communicate strength, accessibility, and confidence. Finally, a small selection of fonts were chosen for their legibility, strong shape, and variety of weights.
The Imperito Networks website was launched in July of 2001.
