hough Brodia had previously gained notoriety for its e-Wallet technology (licensed to MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express, as well as several major banks), in 2001 the company set its sights on the emerging peer-to-peer payments market. In a pilot program with MasterCard, Brodia began work on a co-branded web application designed to rival the dominant competing service provided by PayPal.
Working under a tight deadline, I set out to redesign the prototype user interface created by Brodia's in-house designers, incorporating feedback from MasterCard, the results of numerous usability studies, and my own recommendations. The look and feel, navigation, and screen layouts that I designed for the application departed substantially from the prototype, winning acclaim from MasterCard and Brodia itself.
